REGGAE/LOVERS ROCK
Mikey Spice "Are You Ready"
Mikey made his name in reggae in the 1990's. He remained a staple throughout that decade and tampered off at the turn of the century. He has never left music. He teaches it if not playing it. Spice has not added his name to the live circuit in too long a time. Maybe with this new album "Are You Ready" he will be ready. Always a singer of love songs, this album is no different. The first two songs on the album are the first two singles in reverse order. The album starts with the better of the two 'Everybody Needs Love' and probably the albums best song is the current single. 'Your Man' is the first single and is another top cut. I like 'A Woman Needs Love' just like you.We all need it and Mikey always has plenty of it and likes to share it. There's a new rendition of my favorite Spice song in 'Ali Ali Oh.' This is a good song just not close to the original version. The title track speaks of Jahs blessings. The righteousness of Mikey Spice is a bit overshadowed by his lovers rock. This aspect of his music and songwriting are just as strong. This song proves that point. In just how 'A Woman Needs Love,' 'I Want You' to want me the right way because 'I Want You' to want me too, shows that love has to go both ways. If not then you to 'Let Me Down Easy.'[ Mikey it's nice to hear you and your 'Smiling Face.' A song originally done by John Holt and the albums only cover tune. Lastly, we all leave this place to 'Zion' and and thats just how Mikey leaves us in music. Hopefully, this is a full time return to the recording and live performance side of music as it's been too long and he has been missed. We all need a little Spice in our life.
