REGGAE
Groundation “Dub Rock”
If you love these two essentials of reggae music, you are in for a treat: Reggae group Groundation & dub. It is called “Dub Rock.” This is dub done right. Utilizing the tools and sound efffects of a studio and it's capabilities by using the right echo, reverb, and more at the most crucial times. This is the first time ever for us that we like a Dub album better than the original lyrical one. It's called "Dub Rock" from Groundation. It's done in that 'Ancient Form' like King Tubby. The music leads you 'Ashtray,' which you want with dub. It's a 'World of Love' ...'oh jah jah.....' 'So Soon' is great to just liten it's jut music, reggae music. 'The Human Soul' comes alive. Love the focus on drum & bass, with great instrumentation, harmonies and a sporadic lead vocal. What a great track. These dubs are 'Gold Dub.' This is the 'Vision For The Future' of dub. Hopefully this becomes the blue print. We can't get over how good this dub album. The musical chaos in the beginning, sets the tone for 'Demons and Pagans.' So far every tune is done right. So who dubbed this album? Well Harrison Stafford produced the album with the help of Zach Morillo & Eduardo Gross. At the forefront of this dub album is the man behind Lion & Fox studio Jim Fox. Great job Jim. We have heard your work since the early days of Ras Records and this has to be one of your greatest. The only stuff that compares is your dub versions of Israel Vibrations. Big up all involved. We definitely like this album as a dub album more than a traditional reggae album. Lastly, GROUNDATION produces some of the most complex and layered reggae music out there so for some this DUB remix by Jim Fox will exceed the original album ONE ROCK as it reveals the depths of the sound and thats exactly what it does.
Glen Washington "Feeling Irie"
A veteran in the world of Lover's Rock reggae, Glen Washington, believe it or not has been doing it since the 1970's. Hi first hit came in 1978 and 20 years later he hit the charts again with 'Kindness For Weakness.' He was just as successful as a drummer. He became the singing drummer. Drumming for a band called Calabash he moved to the US to work with Stevie Wonder and continue with Calabash backing reggae artists. This is when we witneed his magic for the first time at The Jamaican Domino Club in Ft Lauderdale Florida around the year 1996. As many of the artists had performed there was a break in the music & Glen Washington & Calabash took advantage of the moment. Glen started reeling of the Beres Hammond hits and had the lace wild. He ended up stealing the show and later recorded for VP and the rest is history. Now nearly 20 albums later "feeling Irie" arrives with the much ado of his trade mark Lover's Rock reggae over classic reggae riddims. The first to bring the love is 'Contagious.' Glen sings in the title track 'the cool selector is doing his thing....Feeling Irie' is our favorite line of the album and for good reason the title track. One way to tell you're in love is that you want to be 'Wherever You Go, is where I want to be.' 'Haters it's time to let my people go ...racism is not wise it shouldnt be because of the color of our skin....Jah is for everyone he's the conquering lion.... set the captives his blessings is over me....over in Africa thats where my people dwell.....move over move out of babylon....slavery is over....freedom of movements freedom for africans. This is his biggest roots & culture tune on the album it's 'Religion Is Division.' 'Tell me do you love me' coulped with the classic riddim brings the right loving vibes on 'One Away With You.' 'Goodness & Mercy Won't Fail' can't fail another roots & culture tune with his Africa in mind. 'We need our freedom' so you got to 'Put It Down,' those reacist feelings. We 'chasing all those bad vibes away so it's good vibes. This is as much a roots reggae album as it is a lovers rock one. A great mix of the two topics with strictly classic reggae riddims. 'That It Is Who We Are.'
Various Artists "Full Bloom riddim"
Zion High Productions and Zion I Kings brings you the "Full Bloom riddim." Featuring an outstanding array of artists from across the reggae spectrum with top shelf musicianship and production values, this album delivers satisfaction on every level. The FULL BLOOM RIDDIM song list reads like an A-Z of the most distinctive and articulate voices in contemporary reggae. The much missed Peetah Morgan (Morgan Heritage) it was the last song he ever recorded, Grammy winner Kabaka Pyramid who shows a softer, loving side, and reggae sensation Jesse Royal, who's song has been in his live performance repertoire are joined by established veterans Capleton, Glen Washington, and Pressure. Other artists long associated with the Zion I Kings musical family include Micah Shemaiah, who records one of his best songs yet, Arkaingelle in collaboration with Jalifa, Reemah who is the 'Greatest Thing' to come out of the VI in recent times, Ras Teo is a nice surprise to hear from him, and Little Roy featuring Lutan Fyah together on a revival of the classic “Jah Can Count on I “.
