REGGAE

Roy Ellis "Roy Ellis & Friends"
Roy Ellis a foundation reggae, ska & rocksteady artists is also known as Symarip aka Skinhead Moonstomp.  Mr Ellis returns with another scorcher. The album opens with the rocksteady/reggae hit 'Mr Rudy.' Remember this album is done with friends on every track. Most of his friends are unknown.Cosmic Shuffling are one of the better known friends on the album. They llie down the foundation to the track 'Shine Your Light On Me, which is one of the better tracks. Roy's best grooves noticeably are the ones that fall between ska & rocksteady. 'A Love Song Gone Bad' reinforces his sound & his better songs on this album. Roy Ellis & Selector Boldrick 'A Date Tonight (Skinhead Girl),' is that song that falls between ska, rocksteady & reggae. The delivery is between ska & rocksteady & the music is between rocksteady & reggae. We do not have to ask 'Can You Feel It' because we know you do.This is today's 'King Of Kings' Mr Roy Ellis because he is one of the few living from this era and still doing it. After giving thanks to the 'King Of Kings,' we give thanks to 'Oh What A Morning.' If you love that old sound of reggae, rocksteady & ska, Roy Ellis is you man today. One of the last legends still around. Ellis does do a boogie woogie called 'Let Me Take You Higher,' which does sound good.

Zoe Mazah "Til Then"
Anyone that 'makes this world 'A Better Place' is a great person. Not only is Zoe Mazah one of those people with her music, she has someone in her life that does the same in her first song. The title of her new album is ''Til Then' The opening horn line will hold you throughout the song. We can say there is a significant quality in the production. Josh David Barret, formerly lead singer of The Wailers joins Zoe on 'Te Quiero, Te Amo,' a Spanish endearment. Here's what you should be listening to 'Tonight' with Randy Valentine. You will feel 'So Alive' after hearing the ska based tune. Uptempo & upbeat for your skanking pleasure. Zoe was a bit unorthodox in her presentation on her last album. We saw as a positive as it was different & interesting.. On this album it's much more traditional. There is an example that uses pauses, wheel ups and a different style of drumming on 'Heaven In Your Eyes.' Fior these same reasons, this one is a standout. Remember in life you need to 'Watch Your Steps.' The album has two dub cuts of 'Te Quiero, Te Amo' and 'So Alive.' Did not realize it until the popped up at the end. When we heard 'Til Then' we felt that would be a great dub version because of the great trumpet. zoe brings us the goods ....again. Stepped it up so 'Til Then, keep listening.

LollyPop Lorry "Stick By Me"
Whenever that 'Summer Day' rolls around, many think of reggae and ska music. The beauty in that is it is always summer somewhere. For those that a true lovers, love it year round. This raw ska tune starts the album off. We are writing this while listening this album & band for the first time ever, so we have no expectations. So far so good. 'Mystery Life' comes off as a straight ahead reggae tune with a beautiful sax solo. (If you don't know by now we are big brass fans). We are listening to it on this easy like Sunday morning and then add all the 'La La La's' at the end, it makes our morning complete. 'They Called It Ska' and that is what you get. The history of ska in music. 'Still Hides You' horn solo stands out. 'Sorry About Your Worry' a straight forward ska tune, that has another sweet horn line from both a sax & trumpet. Imagine sitting lightly swinging in a 'Hammock' a flute is playing with a ska guitar skenk as the base of the music then a wooden xylophone drops and just before the vocals come a sweet melody from a piano comes into the song. Wait it's not over after the singing. This leads into these ladies dancing and the sharp horns return to segue into a baritone sax .... I believe. This song just offers so much. The music flows right into a nice Lover's Rock song 'Save A Little Love' with Tenor Love, which takes us into a 'Song For Two.' If there's any truth to this album it has created the best things through music and the main thing is 'Sweet Emotion.' This done predominately through ska & reggae while the top end of the album has rocksteady too. Oi & enjoy. The 'Outro' sums it after the emotions.

DANCEHALL

Busy Signal 'All Dem Try'
Sean Paul's Dutty Rock Productions has joined MadHouse Records to re-release the sensational riddim called 'Showtime' of the 1990's as "Dutty Showtime." We all know how good Busy Signal is and how much talent he has. Well he has taken it to the next level with his song on the riddim. The amount of lyrics he is spitting in each line is impressive. Also his delivery and amount of time he puts in before he takes a breathe is also very impressive Gwaan Busy you a bad up di place because 'All Dem Try' yet they can not keep up with you. Buju Bnaton's song on said riddim is down below.

DOO WAP/REGGAE/R&B/SOUL

Nordia Mothersille "Broken Child"
This is not your typical Jamaican produced album. This is Nordia Mothersille kills it on the first track 'Ms Honda.' We believe this is the song that spurred a whole album.  It's pretty amazing, if you think about it. Notnice, the producer, ended up being extremely nice when this talent walked through the door. No matter what you like, this is simply good muzik. 'Please' is a sultry, sexy love ballad on the slower side of soul and R&B. There's a similar vibe on 'Mine.' 'When I'm Gone' is more the vibe of Jamaica at the moment lyrically just without the traphall sound and with 6ix member Chronic Law. Nordia's voice i solid throughout this album. It is a standout. The break up song is done in reggae and lyrically strong in 'Walk Away.' Her voice carries well on everything so far. As we listen a litttle more intently the album is more of a soul and R&B album than anything else. The last two songs ('O.T.B. & 'Sorry') secure that and let us truly know this girl has talent. She can do very well in Jamaica, the world stage will be tough. She has the talent. Here's the album if you dare! She did!!!!!!
