Mother's Day 2024 will go down in history because history was made. Marcia Griffiths celebrated 60 years in music. Queen Marcia, now being dubbed the Mother of Reggae muzik hosted an outstanding show in Miramar Florida May 12, 2024.
The show started with Family Man Barret's daughter Aiesha just after 5pm with Kulcha Shok holding down the selector duties. Remember, Marcia was apart of the legendary I-Threes of Bob Marley's Wailers so there's nothing more than love there. You could see & feel the love the whole day. It started with Aiesha and went all the way til Busy Signal closed it on time.
The rest of the show was basically a showcase, tribute and the honoring of The Griffiths. If you didn't know Singer J is the nephew of Marcia's inging partner and legendary songwriter Bob Andy. He was very impressive with his singing of Mr Andy's songs. They ended up 'Really Together.' Lady G, Ras Shiloh, Tanya Stephens, Mr Lexx, Duane Stephenson, Tarrus Riley, Kymani Marley (check out his new single 'Revolution" from his upcoming new album releasing in June/July) along with Shaggy fresh from Dubai to pay their respects to the Queen & Mother of Reggae with their own music. It was so nice to see a show like this where everyone came out and got to shine for at least 10-20 minutes just doing their hits.
Cutty Ranks came out hard with Marcia and put all 'Half idiots' to shame like dog. Cutty never missed a beat and was razor sharp. Daville came out for the ladies and had them going. It was 'All My Life' with Marcia that sounded & shined bright. Freddie McGregor & his Chino made for eventful moment. Freddie & Marcia friends for ever. Leroy Sibbles still sounding great as ever and still loves to sing. Very Impressed with Christopher Ellis came to represent his father Alton and he should be proud. It was just hit after hit. It felt like Alton was there.
We did step away a few times and not sure if Etana, Tony Gregory & Shuga performed.
Marcia held it down with grace, style and beauty. The women is ageless, still sounds amazing and had at least 6 beautiful & stunning outfits. She would dip into her cataloge on her own from time to time. It was well done. Mixed up with the artists and just kept it moving the whole night from it started. I believe the band took one break from they started the showcase. Amazing. The trick here was they had several players step in and keep the music, vibe and energy..
Big ups Marcia as she also got an award of proclamation for her contribution to reggae music. Hats of to Copeland Forbes for orchestrating the stage & artists as well the promoters who showed how to put on 'The Art of Reggae Music.' Also big ups to legend Lloyd Parkes, Winston Barnes, Dean Fraser and Winford Williams who all played a role in this historical event. Don't wait another 60 years to ee these artists they wont be around.
