Reggae

The first two releases are actually re-releases from the Nighthawk records catalogue and now being released by Omnivore. They are Ethiopians & Gladiators 'Dread Prophecy' & Jr Byles 'Rasta No Pickpocket.'  Two greatly produced roots reggae albums that sound so clean & good. In fact, I think it's the best I've ever heard Jr Byles voice. Each album has bonus tracks & extra dub versions. Two instrumental albums in my early reggae radio DJ days. I may be a bit biased. These albums do have the sound you want to hear.

Out of France, comes a great sounding, well produced & executed album from the Booboozzzz All Stars with 'Reggae Bash' Vol 2. This project is birthed out of a weekly reggae night that has brought 5 great musicians together and opened their platform to singers to come and sing their favorite songs. It then evolved into a series of recordings. This is volume 2. Great versions of mainly French pop songs with a few English. "Always Be My Baby' from Mariah Carey is my favorite track. I only know 1 or 2 other songs. The rest are French pop songs done in reggae so it has a real nice sound. The full album is included in this playlist link below and a little more.

This next release is one I am excited about since it is from one of my favorite Polynesian bands out of New Zealand, Katchafire. Starting out as a Bob Marley tribute band, Katchafire is a successful touring band. The new album is called 'Legacy' and is based on messages of love, hope, togetherness, and family; with the 12 songs on this album being recorded in numerous studios around the world from New Zealand and Australia to LA and Hawaii to Jamaica, featuring collaborations with some of reggae’s finest and with the cover art featuring Hawaiian artist Herb Kane’s “War Canoes Of The New Zealand Maori”. Rooted in he King's music as mentioned in their opening track 'Fyah In The Trenches.' Their first single 'Love Today' is definitely the hit on the album. The harmonies, catchy melodies and great lyrics, make it an instant hit. This is where they keep the love rolling to the morning light. The bands main composition is the Bell Brothers and on '100,' they show their full appreciation for mama's love. 'Walk With Me' states 'we can help them see, love is a weapon, together we'll set them free, one earth one people one struggle, so lets hustle to their buckle.'  'Ain't Gonna Give Up' on love & that's for sure. I love the addition of the female vocals. 'One More Day' provides that last song we all like to sing when we break up: 'cuz I need you, can you give me one more day in your arms.' 'All I want to know is do you wanna ride with me vibe me....why are we divided by walls and so ready to walk, somewhere in the world love conquers all, cuz baby I'm "Addicted" yeaaa in every way. Lastly, Katchafire goes 'Way Beyond' the music. Friends & family are all you need to keep the fire.

KULCHA LATINO

Jah Nattoh has released a new single 'Tener La Misma Sensacion' on the 'I Know The You' riddim. It has a great melody with his own singalong part of originality, good vibes too.
