SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.
Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!
Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?
REGGAE
2Lock "On Lockdown"
Ghanaian reggae artist 2Lock is better known as a hilife act as Nana Fynn. His roots are in reggae and that is part of the reason for the name change. His new Ep ''On Lockdown," there is no doubt his strength is in reggae. He has a great voice. In fact, there are moments he sounds like David Hinds on 'Finding My Role.' This tune is about life's journey. The big tune for us is 'Isn't She Nice.' A sweet lover's rock style reggae tune. The EP is solid and the production is good. The name of the Ep is derived from the pandemic.
Richie Spice 'Life Is Still Good'
On the 'Reggae Genesis' riddim, Richie Spice has a lyrically great song. 'Working with the positive...... and you will see, Life is too short to hate anyone' are just a sample of the how 'Life IS Still Good.'
Kumar 'See You Through'
Ric Carbi 'Where Do We Go From Here'
A song written by the young & talented singer Randy Valentine called 'Where Do We Go From Here' and sung by newcomer Ric Carbi. It uses an old studio riddim, too. Out of London, Carbi says this is his year and if this is any indication, keep an eye on him.
Abiyah Israel ‘Boxed In’
New artist from out of Dominica named Abiyah Israel with one of her better tunes. ‘Boxes In’ has really nice production and Abiyah sings nicely on i as she rebels against babylon.
REGGAE ROCK
Kolohe Kai 'I Think You're Beautiful'
One of our favorite Hawaiian reggae singers is Kolohe Kai and wants everyone to know 'I Think You're Beautiful.'
DANCEHALL
Blackout Ja, Liondub, & Ricky T 'Sound Murdara'
An 80's dancehall style tune all the way through, from the title, riddim, lyrics and melody 'Sound Murdara' by Blackout Ja, Liondub & Ricky T.
SKA
Chaka Demus & King Isaac ‘The Score’
A ska tune by the legend Chaka Demus alongside, not the singer you might expect, yet sounds good, King Isaac. ‘The Score’ is a tune that uses the melody from The Wailers tune ‘Cornerstone,’ and uses it well.
