REGGAE

Buju Banton "Pay The Price"
I am sure that every reggae fan has heard that Buju Banton is a free man. Three weeks after his release, Buju has already released his first song called "Pay The Price." I got an email about the release saying it's a new track. Reading the comments online has been mixed on whether it's new or not. My first impression was it was an old song. In any case, it's not a classic Buju still decent.

Anthony Cruz aka Jah Cruz "Love Song Medley"
Anthony Cruz slowly becoming Jah Cruz as he has turned more rasta and still loves to sing love songs, has a medley of his best love songs appropriately called "Love Song Medley." A great song of songs on a classic studio one riddim. You are going to love the love.

Samini "Untamed"
Samini is one of Africa's biggest reggae artists and even bigger in Ghana, where he is from & lives. His new album "Untamed" is a real reggae album. It does not have high life, afrobeats or any other African musical influences and that has to be attributed to the producers out of Seattle Washington, Loud City Music, who did a great job. The first real track sets the pace for the album: 'Reggae Nice.' The first big tune is 'Natty Dread.' The album is in English & has 3 songs in the widely spoken Akan. You will recognize it on 'Obra,' which is also on a recognizable riddim we reviewed earlier in the year called 'Love Vibration' and on 'My Own' has a familiar riddim called 'Reggae Fest.' You see that sexy nubian queen well the 'Girl Is Mine' says Samini and if she's anything like the song, then she has to be extremely beautiful as this is the best tune on the album. The album ends with one of 3 songs in Akan called 'Obaa,' which means girl. Overall, this album is a solid roots reggae album and I hope paves the way for more like it.

SOCA/DANCEHALL

Konshens "If I Get A Whine"
This new soca/dancehall hybrid is on the 4th Quarter riddim produced by Nine mind Entertainment/ Lenkey Record. Konshens is one of my favorite dancehall artists. He keeps it fun & sexy and this tune is no exception.
