Shane Dorian to Accept Humanitarian of the Year Award at SurfAid Cup Malibu

Legendary big wave rider Shane Dorian will lead the charge at the 5th Annual SurfAid Cup Malibu where he will take home  SurfAid’s highest honor – Humanitarian of the Year. The award recognizes individuals who make a concerted effort to save and  improve the lives of women and children living in Indonesia. SurfAid Founder, Dr. Dave Jenkins, will present Shane with the award  at the SurfAid Cup Malibu Kick-Off party on Friday, September 9th at Duke’s Malibu.

Along with Kelly Slater, Shane was nominated for generating financial support and awareness for SurfAid through their joint 2015  Omaze campaign. Enough funds were contributed to help bring SurfAid’s Mother and Child Health Program to 3 villages – an  investment of over $75,000! Shane will be accepting the award on their behalf. Shane has been a dedicated advocate for SurfAid  and an incredible asset to our organization. Join us in congratulating Shane – we are stoked to have him as a part of the SurfAid  family!
A limited amount of tickets will be available for purchase and for those of you looking for that once in a lifetime chance to surf  with Shane, sign up to compete in the SurfAid Cup Malibu. This legendary day of surfing supports our life-saving programs in some  of the most remote and impoverished villages in Indonesia – all close to places surfers love to go.
The SurfAid Cup is a tag-team format surf competition where teams of 4 raise a minimum of $5,000 for SurfAid. While all teams  get to pick a pro or local legend surfer, the team that raises the most money gets the first pick of pro surfer to join as their 5th  team member. Some of our past pros include Tom Carroll, Tom Curren, Donovan Frankerieter, Robert “Wingnut” Weaver, Allen  Sarlo, and Joel Tudor. Trophies are awarded to winning surfers and the winning fundraisers.

The SurfAid Cup is your opportunity to give back, done while mingling with the pro’s and being one of the lucky few to surf an  uncrowded and pumping Malibu!
