SHOK WAVE: NEW MUSIC RELEASES 12/14/20

SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.

Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!

Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?

SKA

Transilvanians "Soul Space"

Out of Vigo, Spain comes the ska based band that incorporates blue beat, rocksteady, bolero, reggae and boogie down blues into their new album "Soul Space." The album starts with 'Curse Of Pharaoh,' an instrumental & psychedelic synthesizer. 'Como Fue?' is a classic bolero sung in a jazz vocal styling with a rocksteady feel. 'The Blue Beat Train' could bring one sound to every rail station, so do not miss the fun of moving your dancing feet. 'Jack The Ripper' sounds like the classic cover from 1961 and done with a classic reggae sound similar to Jackie Mitoo & Don Drummond. Then 'The Power of Rocksteady' steps in with the soul of High Paw on vocals. The next three tracks pay their respects to Gonzalo Villar a cultural icon from Vigo. Secondly, to the 'Afronauts' of Zambia with their funky reggae sound and thirdly to Laurel Aitken, the Godfather of ska with a great rendition of 'Boogie In My Bones.' This sounds different and good with a real boogie blues sound. '1968' was the best year in Jamaican music because it was when ska was transitioning to reggae so you got the best of both. This track is the epitome of the two. 'Is Anybody There?' is a punk rock song turned ska. The last song is a dedication to 'The Black Mambas' of South Africa. Lovers of that old Jamaican sound, will be pleasantly surprised by the authenticity of this band & it's sound.
