SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.
Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!
Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?
DANCEHALL
Through The Roots & Kaylan Arnold 'Hey Lover'
There has definitely been a change of direction in the music that Through The Roots (TTR) has been putting out. Simply put they have gone from the American reggae sound to a much more authnetic Jamaican style. We love it. This is their second collab that has gone in that direction. The first was with one of our favorites Busy Signal. This new one is called 'Hey Lover' a Jamaican style duet with Kaylan Harris. A sexy dancehall very forward love song. The change could very well be credited to the production sside of things with people like Willy Chin & Niko Marzuca. Curious to see if this is a permanent change or a trial. Either way it doe not take away from what is present.
REGGAE
Forever Rootz Band
New to us is Forever Rootz Band out of California. Rootz reggae with a pop sound to it. It's a similar situation as above with TTR. This is a a California band hooking up with Jamaican producer. They have 3 new songs out "Streets of Kingston" was the first song released from the collaboration, followed by "Reggae Grooving". The latest release is "Ital Food, Ital Love". The next single, "One Love, One World", is scheduled for release on May 24th. Producer Hanson, who is from Clarendon in Jamaica, first met Forever Rootz Band in 2023 and agreed to work with them. His credentials are impressive, having produced albums in 2023 by heavy-hitters such as Mykal Rose and Marcia Griffiths. He has also produced songs by Anthony B, Gyptian, Big Mountain and many others.Hanson believes Forever Rootz Band has the goods to go further and so do we, that's why we are featuring them here.
