SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.
Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!
REGGAE
The hottest thing out of Trinidad right now is a Soca artist with strong roots named Nailah Blackman. She has just released her first Reggae song called 'Dangerous Boy' and it's a scorcher. She has released 7 songs total and please note they are all hits, too. All her songs are Soca except for this new Reggae track. She likes the Rasta boy and she has a real African Vibe.
Another new artist, Jahman, has released 'Call On Jah Mercy.' Nice melody, nice lyrics and music all come together to create a buzz for Jahman.
InDiggnation recording artist Sevana Siren has taken matters into her own hands. She's taking a stand against governments destroying our earth. She has done with her new song & video 'Justice.' 'No amount of money' can save our planet, we have to do it through prevention.
New female singer Rafeelya has released a nice new reggae EP called 'Life & Times.' 'Always Be My Baby' will catch you off guard and make you like it. Then you realize what song it is and it stills sounds so good. Other tracks are 'Where Is The Love?', 'Finish It' and 'Nothing Happens Before Their Time' .
REGGAE/DANCEHALL/HIP HOP
Looks like this is becoming a regular/new category Reggae/Dancehall and this week we add hip hop to it. They are all connected thats for sure. So here's another new song bordering somewhere between Reggae & Dancehall and we add Hip Hop to it as well. Many may not know this, Kabaka Pyramid started off more as a Hip Hop artist while attending school in South Florida. Now he's got a new album coming out with Damian Marley, so it makes them a perfect fit, musically. His latest song is 'Kaught Up.' A song that confesses his love for this girl. Kabaka returns to his roots here with a nice Hip Hop flow, too.
DANCEHALL
The Rastaman prophet has decided to party on 'Tun Up Dat' courtesy of Cornelius Records, who have really made a name for themselves. It's definitely something different for Capleton and it works. Good vibes.
The Bad Gyal 'haffi make you 'Come Back.' Cecile puts it on Kappo aka Kip Rich formerly Rich Kid. The song and the duo work well together for the Dancehall fans.
The Party Party riddim courtesy of Mr G's Young Blood records scores a good, fun vibe. Cecile is on a roll with her combinations this week. On 'Grown Now' she joins Shane O and sounds as good as I have ever heard her. The other good song on the riddim is 'Girls' Christopher Martin & Mr G himself. A real dancehall tune. Let us not forget Tatik the newcomer with another Dancehall topic song 'Easy 123.'
SKA
Timbali feat. Peppery 'How Di Place A Run (Dreadsquad Remix)' has an interesting mix of Reggae, Steppas, Dancehall and a Ska base. This is the remix and the video is full of vibes. Something a little different for US listeners.
