REGGAE

U Brown "Still Chanting Rub A Dub"
One of the greats that is till with us "Chanting Rub A Dub Is U Brown. He's Among Jamaica's Top Ten DJs: U-Roy, I-Roy, Big Youth, etc. This new album keeps the rub-adub alive with many great guests of old & new. Love the Frankie Paul combination where they take it back to the original 'Rub A Dub School.' The singer/DJ combo works so well. Mr Brown links up with another 70's original Linval Thompson on 'Orogonal Ganja Man,' need we say more!!!! Anytime U Brown is around or in town it's always a ''Rootsman Party.' Only one of two solos on the album. Lastly, we recommend the classic Al Campbell that can't sing bad music drops 'Ruff Ina Dis Ya Time.' All are worthy because of the various singers with very different styles. The golden era lives on in the modern times.

Various Artists "Reggae Odyssey"
This is definitely one of the better Putamayo in years. We get all their releases and this one is not only reggae, it is reggae from around the world and when we can learn it's a great thing . The first song is from our favorite band out of Costa Rica Ojo De Buey with 'Jugada de Pared.' One we missed called “Jugada de Pared” refers to the “wall pass”, a common soccer play where one player passes the ball to a teammate and immediately
receives it back, often to bypass an opponent or advance the ball strategically. “Like a wall pass / I pass it to you and you give it back to me / Let go
of the vibe; it feels so good / That’s how we keep moving forward / Because in this life you see people who never understood / True perfection lies within.
The second lesson comes from a reggae hot spot ince the early days the UK from Big Chip with Run Come Down & Cornerstone Hoens and the song is 'Final Offer.' A great instrumental track that is very musical with lots of our favorite horns and even jazzy. The reggae jazz fusion is also another favorite. If you really know Hawaiian reggae then you know Azato who infuses Afro-Cuban, Hawaiian, Samoan, Nyabhinghi & jazz elements into his music.. Here he is joined by singers Aisea Taimani and Riya Davis on 'Come My Way.' A song about seeking strength from his source. Third lesson brings us Marias Siga with Oddy out of Senegal & France respectively. You know music is good when you do not understand what they are saying yet you still feel it. This is the case with 'Boukanack.' Mista Savona should be familiar to those reggae fans. He is known for his Jamaica meets Cuba better known as Havana meets Kingston collaborations. Here he does a tribute to the work of Cedric “Im” Brooks, the Jamaican saxophonist, composer & arranger whose ground-breaking
1970s recordings with the band Light of Saba have become cult classics among reggae aficionados. This instrumental track features Australian trombonist
Jordan Murray and Savona on keyboards and bass backed by a band consisting of some of Jamaican music’s greatest living musicians: Sly Dunbar on drums, Bopee and Baz Turbull on guitars and percussion by Bongo Herman. These are our standouts. There are others that sound great as well and stretch the sound of reggae a bit far for us. Nonetheless they are very interesting and all a worthy listen to those who know Putamayo for their worldly and different sounds. The Rocky Duwani should be familar to many as well.

Timothy Boyce is a New Jersey veteran in the music business. Singer, songwriter, composer, producer, mixer, masterer, and guitar playing surfer..  commonly called P-Dub short for his band name He has headed his own band Predator Dub Assassins, as they release their 12th album. It is rightfully called "Turntable,' that has a limited amount of vinys available.. Life starts the album like a 'Holiday' with a great horn line and rock guitar riff. Life is also about being pulled this way, puled up, down, here, there & everywhere. Not sure why we go through all these tribulations while on Earth, but on the album it's  called 'Gravity.' 'Gravity,' which has an interesting Violin player, which is rare in reggae, also has another rarity, which is a guest vocal appearance on an Assassins record. The song starts with a nice guitar riff with Tiffany Sterling on 'Flatter' because nothing 'compares to you.' Who is 'you?' That's the question. We think we know who that is since we know this talent personally. In Life you have one chance to be here and make your mark. P-Dub has left a 'Legacy' his kids can be very proud of their father. The next tune starts off with a musical melody that sounds either straight out of the garage era or a surf tune then breaks into a musical rockin staedy ska tune with great instrumentation from the horn section as well as a sick melody from the keyboards. P-Dub, an Inspector 7 former member, brings back his roots with this ska tune, which should not be a surprise. This tune is called 'Tumbleweed Tuesday.' For us this is where the fun begins because life is all about fun, even if you gotta work....F@#K the BS!!  We are here 'to play in the sunshine and live your best life.' P Dub turns up that second sweet voice of his in this song to show his versatility. SO own it!!!1 'Never Get Away' is not the opposite of the last song 'Best Life.' Just because it's named 'Never Get Away' it does not mean that at all. Let us reiterate the lyrics: 'we're going to ride this wave and let love grow, never get away from you, I could never get away noo...ohoho, because every moment with you feels like it's meant to stay.' So when you find that special someone you never get away from them because you don't want that. When it does happen you are always  'Down For Whatever.'More steady rockin music is coming your way in the style of in a reggae with Big B, Bradley Brown.'Dancing in the Moonlight' is a steady ska tune of a love song. Two back to back summer tunes. Maybe this is apart of the end ....... You will have to say you stayed with friends. There is 'One More.' 'One More' it is and finished with a dub fron P-Dub & the Dub Assassins. Who's song is this? It's one more hooligan with P Dub giving his best Singjayversion. No gilligans here. This one ain't dead classic reverb, spotty vocals and additional guitars to spice up the dub. Did someone say echo chamberrrrrrrrr........Pull out the "Turntable" and let the record play on & on to the break of dawn.
