Have You Surfboard Restrictions Lately?
've become lazy when it comes to checking surfboard fees for an airline before I book a flight... That's why I think this idea might shed some light on the latest fees and restrictions on surfboard travel. Know before you go, is what Surfline says...One of our longtime sponsors, Phil Stevens at MyEyeDr in New Smyrna Beach (I just ordered some new glasses today), is headed out of town with a bag full of boards and heard a story that shook up our understanding of some of the major airlines length restrictions. Word has it, a friend of his was outbound on an American Airlines flight with longboards that were not allowed at check-in because the bag exceeded 115 inches, but not in length. It exceeded the 115 inches in linear length, which was defined by the airline as length plus width plus height. His friend had to cancel his flight plan and rebook the next day without longboards.

I've drawn up a complete experiment here... It's basically a publicly accessible google sheet with a few airlines on there to get us started to share experiences in the comments section on the far right and to update any airline limits and fees as you see fit.

If you feel you have more recent information, please add it. I've kept the airlines in alphabetical order, so if you need to insert a line, right click where you need to put your airline and insert a row.

Let's see how this thing goes... It's available here, and it's on our linktree at the bottom as well. Or click on the image below to access.
