NEW REGGAE/REGGAE ROCK RELEASES
SowFlo - 'Such is Life'
SouthWest Florida's SowFlo has released their debut full length and third album called 'Such Is Life.' 'Life' shows growth as it should. Sowflo has expanded on their reggae rock sound. They rock out on 'If You're Lost,' which has become an anthem at their live shows. The reggae has grown the most. Its deeper and more traditional. 'Keep Cool' and 'I Hope You Know' are two of the better examples. Check out 'One Good Throw' aka 'better to see the stars.' An interesting ditty about doing bad for the better. This is typical of lead singer and main songwriter Jacob Dorris. On the contrary, it's not your typical style of predictability so it's refreshing.
Dub Inc - 'So What'
Dub Inc has released their first single off their new album 'So What.' It features Naaman, both from France and it sounds great. It's called 'Don't Be A Victim.' It has all the great elements of reggae with a good message, good music and a great contrast between the artists.
NEW REGGAE/DUB RELEASES
Jim The Boss - 'Hudson Soul'
Boom One Records releases the new Jim The Boss record 'Hudson Soul.' Vibesy roots and dubbed out reggae that features the likes of Victor Rice who lends one of his most popular riddims, 'Type A,' and also features a performance by Slackers co-founder David Hillyard to make my favorite dub track. Veteran dancehall singer Ptah Kruud from True Persuaders sings about the woman he loves on “In My Soul.” Jim the Boss also introduces a fresh new singer hailing from California, Jah Adams on the better vocal tracks which stand out on 'Take Over.'
Alien Dread with Alvin Davis & Asha Barnes - 'La Loi Du Milieu'
The next record is more along the Reggae/Jazz tip. It's Alien Dread with Alvin Davis & Asha Barnes - 'La Loi Du Milieu.' A great combination of reggae & jazz together on the same record.
NEW DANCEHALL RELEASES
General Knas - 'Dancehall Sweet Again'
This week's Dancehall selection is a first for me. It's General Knas -with 'Dancehall Sweet Again.' It's the first time I can recall that I actually like a dancehall song in another language. I hear reggae all the time just never dancehall. To make it even more appealing, General Knas is from Sweden one of the rougher sounding languages, making his accomplishment that much nicer.
NEW SKA/ROCKSTEADY RELEASES
The Steadytones - 'Come on Home'
The German Ska band The Steadytones hit with their ska/rocksteady tune 'Come On Home.' The track sounds like it's right between ska & rocksteady and it's probably where their name comes from.
