SHOK WAVE: NEW MUSIC RELEASES 12/26/2023

SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.

Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!

Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?

REGGAE

Turbulence 'Here I Am'
Turbulence has been moving more towards a sweeter sound sing to singjay style of a voice for the last few years. It is much more appealing to our ears. His newest song 'Here I Am' is one the best ones we have heard in this style. He is here on the 'Right Choice' riddim and not letting them 'run me away.'  Nice rhyming lyrics.

Common Kings 'Stand By Me (Drew Forever)
This is a tribute song for their former keyboard player Drew Keys. Drew was a friend of ours and worked with Jahfe as he moved to Miami in 2007. First met him with my favorite band at the time when we were doing our Reggae Sundays at Jazid. We called it Church. Drew, Jahfe & Reggae Sundays grew really well together over the next 7-8 years. Drew moved up faster than we did, he was that good. Drew Keys went on to play with Shaggy for a good stint and then landed with Common Kings and this became his main band. When he passed that was his gig. He also played trombone & keys on alot of Zion I Kings recordings which meant Akae Beka, Pressure, Chronixx and I Grade records & Lustre Kings productions. Music is releasing on a constant flow that includes Drew's Keys & his trombone. This song is a tribute to him by his band he was most dedicated to in playing and being involved. He was the type of person that he only made you better just by being around him. Enjoy!!!! His music lives on.
David Carol & Skool Band 'Turn Up The Stereo'
Everyone always wants to hear the music on the stereo especially any artist that has recorded a new song. David Cairol joins legendary Skool band in Jamaica to record this one at Harry J Studios. Nice melody and several great lines that stand out like 'cut off the tv show, turn up the stereo, cuz I wanna feel good with my music yeah.' is one. The other is 'hit the high hat, low hat, need high life, why fight, no wifi but hifi to connect.'

SOCA

Shal Marshall 'Bare Good Vibes'
We are in the midst of Trinidad's season for new music. One of our favorites right now is 'Bare Good Vibes' from Shal MArshall. He sings 'if you have nothing good to say, don't say nothing at all.......we don't want them negative vibes and energy.' So it's pure 'Good Vibes' with this tune.

SKA X-MAS

Tomorrow Bad Seeds 'Donde Esta Santa Claus'
Tomorrows Bad Seeds out of the bay area of Los Angeles have released a nice original ska Christmas tune singing in both English and Spanish. Real nice catchy tune. We like it.....alot.
