SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.
Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!
Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?
REGGAE
ManuDigital & Various Artists "Step UP'
If you are a lover of the 80's digital reggae/dancehall sound you should know about ManuDigital. He has crafted a corner of this sound. Through his live sound system videos with all kinds of artists, he started producing tracks with the same vibe & sound. Today has released his album "Step Up."
This being his third album, this one extends the sound of bass a bit more. We love his dancehall reggae tracks. Our favorites in order of appearance is the classic Yami Bolo with a guest feature from Italy's Alborosie called 'Reggae Music And Love.' The world wants it and Yami has delivered a classic with Alborosie inna dancehall stylee. Jamaican Skarra Mucci based in the Uk brings the fire on 'Fi Di Youths' is a dancehall scorcha. Staying up with the times Manu produces a Afrobeats/soca influenced dancehall track for Sudan's Dynamq and his soon to be hit 'Piki Piki.' There is more of an evolutiontowards more electronic and hybrid productions. Those are not our vibes. If theyre yours you might like them. He navigates between musical genres like no one does, inviting guests from all over the world and armed with his bass, MPC and synthesiser. Enjoy
HR "Let Luv Lead (The Way)"
The former lead singer for Bad Brains, HR has put out an interesting mostly reggae album with an all star cast of guests. Top tunes include 'Everything You Do' with Nick Hexum of 311, a reggae cover of the Bad Brains 'Attitude' with Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D., 'Peace & Luv II,' and our favorite is the title track with Harrison Stratford of Groundation. It's a simple reggae tune with a good vibe and on LAW Records.
SOCA/ZOUK
Various Artists "Swoop Waap riddim"
When it comes to music there's so many styles of Caribbean styles that we love. Many of our favorites seamlessly combine two styles into a musical dream. This new soca more zouk styled riddim from Mason Mad & Hey Choppi is 'so nice' it makes every song sound good. Usually the first song we hear on it is the most influential and that would be 'Let It Go' by the co-producer Mason Made. It makes a musical dream come true. Ebony Empress has the only other one that stands out with 'Last Dance.' The rest stand comparable and are available in the mix below. One last note, the riddim so sweet we will play it as well....which is very rare.
SKA
Madness "Madness - Theatre Of The Absurd Presents C'est La Vie"
The ska legends have released a musical style album called. There's hints of their classic especially in the ska tune ''Baby Burgular,' our favorite track. There are several others very similar. There's also their mod sound and theatrical stuff. Definitely worth a listen.
