SHOK WAVE: NEW MUSIC RELEASES 3/22/2022

SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.

Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!

Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?

REGGAE

Various Artists "Celebrating Nina Simone'
A 7 track EP celebrating Int'l Womens Month, "Celebrating Nina Simone" is produced by Stephen Marley with all roots reggae tracks and classic Nina Simone. The first song is one of it's best 'Four Women' Queen Ifrica. Many call this one 'My Skin Is Black,' very appropriate for Queen Ifrica. The second song is another riveting rendition with one of our favorite Nina Simone songs 'Mr Bojangles' by Maya Azucena. New to our ears, Maya Azucena sings beautifully. The last stand out track is sister Cedella Marley with 'Misunderstood.' We have not heard a song from Cedella, other than her father's music since she joined her son & fathers' band on 'One World, One People.' Let us not forget that Bob Andy & Marcia Griffiths had a big hit with 'Young, Gifted & Black' covered here by 2022 Grammy nominated Etana.

Puppa Lek Sen 'Dem No Conscious'
A reggae artist from the African country of Senegal, Puppa Lek Sen has been doing it for decades and his new album "I Roots" is solid roots reggae with a french twist. The song here 'Dem No Conscious' is the last song on the 11 track album and is by far the best. The title says it all and contrary to that Puppa is very conscious
Jada Kingdom "Back To Black'
Jada Kingdom steps out of the dancehall and does a great cover of Amy Winehouse's 'Back To Black.' Done acoustic style and a short version too, it tough though. Check it, it's different.

I-Noah 'Jah Will Be There'
I-Noah releases his new album "Royalty.' It has a lot of potential and 'Jah Will Be There' is a standout.very conscious and smooth. Another is 'Somebody Worse.' Look to the album for more.

Holly Cook 'Full Moon Baby'
One of our favorite Uk female reggae singers is Holly Cook and she is working on a new album. Her first single is 'Full Moon Baby' and she knows exactly what she needs. What she needs and what we need too.
Glen Washington ‘Now I Know’
Classic Glen Washington with that smooth, sexy voice with his signature ooohs & aaaahs. The song is called ‘Now I Know.’ Wondering why there's a picture of Dennis Brown on the artwork. If Anyone knows please share.

Black Uhuru feat. Dylan Dharma, Andrew Bees & King Hopeton 'Brand New Day'
Since their return in 2017, Black Uhuru has kept up their consistency of good reggae muzik. It's about living for a 'Brand New Day' and waiting for a brand new light. This means you will be alright.
Various Artists “Afreeka riddim”
A nice roots reggae riddim with two top tracks.
The first one is Dread Max ‘Unity Freedom And Work’ and the other is Jah Michael ‘Royal From Way Back When.’ Both songs talk of different issues/topics regarding the Motherland. The full riddim was all that is available. The two songs we like are the first two in the mix. Enjoy

Uwe Banton 'The People Need To Be Free'
Words from the wise.....'The People Need To Be Free' from Germany's Uwe Banton. Once you take the people's freedom, it's over.
Mighty Mystic 'Giant'
As a frontrunner in America's roots rock reggae scene, Mighty Mystic is asking that you 'King Me Now.' That request is solidified with his first single off the album with Sizzla Kalonji 'Far From Jamaica.' Mystic's humble beginnings started in 'Goshen' St Elizabeth Jamaica. This explains his redbone. As a big man now, Mighty Mystic knows a few things about life, touring & reggae music. It's in his latest single "Giant,' also the title track to his newest album of the same name and our favorite track. It shows depth, his experience and starts with a little country feel. Even with all that he is still human and still gets 'Nervous.' Sounds like a girl is getting him nervous, yet the next track she is 'Ready For A G.' Everything is pointing in the direction of up right now, the 'Elevator,'  'Champion,' the 'Satellites' and 'Dream,' which features Medisun. The album finishes with a second version of 'Michael' and it feels like this song, with its passion, has a deeper meaning than deciphered. Listen to the whole album yourself right here:
Rising Tide & Mike Love 'Together'
Title track of their new joint Ep, it's Mike Love & the Rising Tide band...."Together." Great message for these times with a nice reggae and jazz feel.
Ezekiah Rose "Good Ova Evil"
New artist Ezekiah Rose has a new debut album "Good Ova Evil." You can really hear the potential in this new artist especially in two songs:
'JoyFlow' with Luciano & 'Guide' which says let love & Jah guide you. Great words to live by. Let the joy flow around you with love and a positive sound. Love these lyrics.

DANCEHALL

Various Artists "Strength riddim"
Two of dancehall's greats return to the 90's level with a modern dancehall riddim called "Strength." Classic form from both Beenie Man & Capleton. Beenie's has that crossover feel with the chorus and the slur of 'Woie.' It's one of those singing words that has no meaning yet sounds good. The fireman & prophet Capleton returns with the best thing we've heard this decade in 'Pray Together.' you decide

Various Artists "Gipsi Woman riddim"
A nice mid jugglin riddim with standouts from Sizzla, who's been putting out a lot of muzik, just not that great and Omar Perry. They are 'Change' and 'Judgement,' respectively. It's a cross between reggae & dancehall
Shaggy 'Mi Nuh Know'
Shaggy does a take off of Eek A Mouses 'Wa Do Dem' as 'Dem Nuh Know' in a straight dancehall style and even shows off some real rapping skills.

KULCHA LATINO

La Tifa 'Mi Excusa'
The nice voice of La Tifa returns on 'Mi Excusa.' Everybody has an excuse, La Tifa's just sounds better.

SOCA

Kes, J Perry & Michael Brun 'Liki Tiki'
A nice soca, compa & french tune from Kes, J Perry & Michael Brun called 'Liki Tiki'
