REGGAE
Various Artists "Seven Letters - The Singles Collection"
In brief, this compilation is a history of British reggae and this album has that authentic sound of the 1960's & 70's. It was created at that time and so it sounds good as a compilation. The first song to stand out is the first song on the B-side 'Soul Crash.' An organ instrumental that gets a busy noisy at times yet still shines. Roy Ellis steps up with 'There Goes My Heart' in a classic lover's rock rocksteady style. Closing the album is the best vocal track 'Bam Bam Baji,' a tune with roots in a calypso song from the 1950s. In 1964, a rendition titled Bado Man was released on Prince Buster’s label. The album wraps up nicely with the flipside of the single, Hold Him Joe. Most of these records are by the original Pyramids which changed it's name to Pyramids backwards as Symarip with no 'D,' which is aka Seven Letters. Here's a mix of the bands songs that include many of the albums cuts.
The Bandulus ‘Tell It Like It Is”
Most true reggae fans are stuck musically in the 1970's, for good reason. Jamaican reggae of the 1970's is the golden era of the music. This leads people to believe that there is no good new music. Trust us it is out there, even the sounds of the 70's. It may not all be from the 70's yet there are many modern bands doing that sound. The latest is The Bandulus with their new album "Tell It Like It Is." This band has that sound on this new album of love songs. There's good and there's bad love stories and it's all here. The firt song to captivate the essence is 'Not Always.' I will love you only....alllllwwwwwayyyyss' sings Jeremy Pena, lead singer and songwriter for the band. 'Broken Smile' has a melancholy feeling of a lost love and really captives the sound with it's harmonies and classic sounding riff. The mood is completely flipped on 'Be Your Man,' because just one kiss can do that in the morning. 'I would be proud to call you mine...be your man.' A woman fulfills a man and it successfully happens here. The title track is a rendition of Aaron Neville's 'Tell It Like It Is.' These are our favorites discover yours.
Etana ‘Dont Give Up’
Etana always has positive messages even when it is a negative topic. ‘Dont Give Up’ is a universal message and our favorite line sings, ‘we still have our life lessons to learn.’
