Kulcha Shok Muzik's weekly musical blog of new reggae, dancehall,
Soca, calypso and ska
This week we had one New release worth talking about and it's Tjaxx 'New World Disorder.'
A solid album of mostly reggae and two good soca tracks. The title track opens and
makes way for my favorite 'Mama Please Don't Let Them.' Then 'Cool Runnings' is the first
of 3 covers. The other 2 are of Bob Marley. Other top tracks include 'Run Come,' 'Heaven Help Us All,'
and the two soca tracks 'Turn The Music Up' and 'Woman So You Sweet (remix)' which both are on the same soca track.

Since there isn't much of any new music to talk about, I am going to use this opportunity to talk about a relatively new release that got overlooked, The Minstrel Riddim Album.
This album features a version of the original 'Queen of the Minstrel' riddim on every track. A nice live rendition with a dub of Perfect Giddimani's 'Natty Promise' & and an instrumental with a nice sax added to the track. The album opens with 'Humble Ways' by the USVI's Ras Attitude. A song written several years ago and never released because it was written to this riddim. A very nice song about the Empress. The albums most popular song, at the moment, is Perfect Giddimani's 'Natty Promise.' One of my favorites is 'Go General' by the long lost Purple Man, who sounds as good as he did in his hay days of the 1980's. He came to fame when he did an album with Yellowman. Very similar look & style. The album's lead off single, which also has its own video, is the cultural dj with a style very similar to Sizzla is Natty Remo's Smoke the Weed & 'Get High.' An ode the HERB. The two creepers on the album are 'Hole In My Heart' by Ras Kokay & 'I Miss Your Love' by Fyakin. Lastly, Terry Linen makes an appearance with 'Ungrateful Woman,' what a great voice. The tune he was suppose to sing was P-Dub's 'Black Woman.'
