Surf Contest
Welcome to the 2012 Dirty South Surf Competition
We’re ready for the next installment of the Dirty South Surf Competition to set off on South Beach with the wave window opening Dec 1, 2011. This year we are featuring three different categories:
• Surf Contest [team only]
• Retro Division [6 of 6 Individual Slots Available]
• Stand Up Paddle Surf Contest
• Skim Contest
Contestants may register as individuals or as a team. Entrance donations are as follows:
• Individuals: $25
• Retro: $100
• Teams (4 members + alternate/coach): $150
The surf contest will be by teams consisting of 5 members, 4 surfers and 1 alternate/captain. All members must be from the same zip code. There will be 2 surfers from each team in the water at the same time for each heat. Heats are 30 minutes long.
Scores will be based on the highest rides from each team member. In order to switch competitors, there must be a tag by each member of the team completely out of the water.
There will be a separate skim contest and a separate SUP surf contest.
Retro division is limited to only 6 surfers that will draw numbers 1-6. There will be 6-7 boards to choose from and the surfer that draws the #1 will get first choice from the surfboards provided and son and so forth in the order of numbers drawn up to 6. The surfboards will be retro surfboards from the 60′s to the 80′s. The winner will get a brand new surfboard and the proceeds go to the non-profit organization Miami Surf Archive Project, which is solely about preserving the history of surfing in Miami.
5 member teams are $150 for each team. Each team will win 5 surf boards, one for each member, as well as the Dirty South bragging rights and trophy for the year.
Registration for the SUP and skim contests are $25 per person. First place skim will receive a surf board, and first place SUP will receive a $250 prize packages. And trophies will be awarded to those who place 1st-4th.
Contestants may submit payment and registration online via the steps below. Alternatively, contestants may print and complete the registration form and mail it in along with payment. Entering yourself or your team online in the Dirty South Surf Competition consists of two steps:
(1) Donation: select the appropriate donation below and proceed with payment;
(2) Registration: Once your payment has been processed you will receive three confirmation emails (two from Kulcha Shok and one from PayPal). When you receive the email titled “Kulcha Shok Muzik: download files…”, locate the link to download the registration PDF and click it. This will download a PDF to your computer that will give you additional information about registering yourself or your team for the contest.
