NEW REGGAE RELEASES

Mykal Rose - 'Rasta State'

The first Reggae Grammy Award winning voice of Mykal Rose has returned with 'Rasta State.' In the 'Rasta State' there's the basis of 'Hail H.I.M.,' sacramental demand of 'Gimme The Herb,' a message to fellow 'Israelites' and ultimately it's about 'Peace & Love In The Ghetto,' the album has it covered in a great roots & culture fashion. Even though the album is produced by Waterhouse neighbor King Jammys, I felt the production could have been catered a little more to Mykal's style.

Emeterians - 'The Journey'

Out of Spain by way of Peckings in the UK, comes 'The Journey' by the trio called Emeterians. A good roots reggae album using the Studio One riddim Peckings loves. Stand outs include 'Love Revolution,' 'Feeling Good,' 'Hardest Thing To Say,' 'Lover's in the Distance' and the ending of the beginning ''Lead The Way.' Not known in the US, this new album should change that for this band.

NEW DANCEHALL RELEASES

Konshens - 'What She Want'

Konshens is one of my favorite dancehall artists. His latest single (if you can call it that) is called 'What She Want' on the Up Move riddim. There's plenty on the riddim, just the only one I like. Style, lyrics and delivery are always straight.....dancehall.

NEW SKA/ROCKSTEADY RELEASES

Rhythm Express - 'Kingston Blues'

Title track 'Kingston Blues' from Rhythm Express is a ska rhythm with an elongated blues built in, the handiwork of Jesse “Dubmatix” King. This is where the communal side of the Express kicks in. Bill King steps back in time and scripts horn lines that could easily reside in the vocabulary of such Jamaican bands, the Skatalites. Everton and Liza Paul scripted lyrics that speak of the landscape elder Paul traveled in his youth; the Kingston clubs, neighborhoods, recording studios and celebrates those masters who paved the way. Vocalist Maiko Watson gives a laid back read keeping the melody true to the times - in the spirit of women who popularized reggae and ska. Engineer Shane 'Shaky J' Forrest.

NEW SOCA RELEASES

Varcy aka Lady V - 'Soca Lover'

Bahamian Soca artist Varcy aka Lady V comes with a true love song in soca. The video is well worth watching too.
