SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.

Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!

Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?

REGGAE

Soom T "Good"
Scotland's top female reggae artist is Soom T., out of Glasgow. Her third album is called "Good" and "Good" it is. album no doubt. Her last was in 2018, yet this one has been worked on for 10 years according to the press release. Ms T sings 'I Wanna Live,' which 'Our Day' will come. Soom denounces the political and social problems of our times and 'World' in 'Bring Them Down.' 'Don't Stand For This' is more dancehall style with a positive message and SOOM T sings 'my rasta put up your fist, show your movement that rasta is it.' 'My Shelter' is a good different. 'One More Tune' is that last song. It reminds me at the end of a session and we are DJing some one always screams one tune
Tanya Stephens "Some Kinda Madness"
Tanya Stephens has never been one to hold back or bite her tongue.
"Some Kinda Madness" is edgy, gritty and tongue in cheek. It was
her answer and therapy to COViD. She says "Everything is madness to
me. We do everything that goes against our sustainability. When we
do something good, it is to correct something really, really bad we
did before. I think all of this is madness. If anybody disagees
with me it is okay.' This madness is expressed in 'Fifty' a
dancehall song done with Patra, as they both are 50 now. Tanya
agrees we all have to 'Be Who We Be.' In the song she sings 'they love you when you
agree with them, hate you when you dont.' 'Zig Ziggler' is full of
ofrhyming lyrics. The song is meant to get you out of your shell that
has a soca vibe. Named after the Motivational speaker of the same
name. Other album stalwarts are Nadine Sutherland, Cedella Marley,
Diana King and Big Youth who's featured on favorite track 'Reset.'
The title track has Singer J and Tanya's daughter makes her debut
on 'So Damaged.' Lots of old skool riddims redone like on 'Not
Today.'It uses the classic from Israel Vibration's 'Same Song.'
For any of the rock n' rollers out there, they will be able to
relate to the lyrics of the song 'Blame it on Rock N' Roll.'
The album was done during covid and took 2 years to do. It ended
up being therapy for Tanya as she was depressed and recorded 40
songs. The album ended up with 20 of her more happier songs with
all kinds of flavors because she had the freedom to do what she
wanted, which is always nice. The album cover is a picture of the
Bank of Jamaica with it on fire. Tanya's way to 'bun down babylon
one more time.' It was over a 2 year period to record and its
been over 10 years since her last. So get it while it's hot.

Stick Figure & Barrington Levy 'Soul of the World'
The signature sounds of Stick Figure & Barrington Levy have joined forces on 'Soul of the World.' They sound great together, Barrington singing the hook 'it's the soul of the world, I've been trying to find a good time, four corners of the world, all I found is love.' One of reggae's best voices meets one of America's most popular reggae bands.
