SHOK WAVE: NEW MUSIC RELEASES 1/23/2023

SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.

Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!

Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?

REGGAE

EarthKry "Dandy Shandy"
A new Ep called "Dandy Shandy" has that vintage reggae sound from Jamaica's truest, modern reggae band, EarthKry. It starts with 'Ms. Mary' that sounds like an old record playing and the ep's first single. Our favorite song is the second single 'See You Again.' A song with a great melody, classic harmonies and that grey area between ska and rocksteady. The best song that was not released as a single is 'Oh Oh Sarah.' Album cuts like 'Ghetto,''Soon Come' and Maaga Dog' (the only song to get the dub treatment) hold the strength and vintage sound of this EP.

Rhoda Dakar 'What A Wonderful World'
From a ska legend, doing a Louis Armstrong classic in a version for the kids. It's Rhoda Dakar doing 'What A Wonderful World' in a reggae style.

Bob Marley & Sarkodie 'Stir It Up'
This is a remix that mainly features the African artist in a hip hop style with the reggae backdrop and the constant repetition of the chorus throughout the song. It's nearlt 2 minutes in before you hear the original voice of the King.

Various Artists "Highest Praise riddim"
A God & Christian based riddim there are two standouts really worth listening on this riddim. They are 'Hotta Redda Fyah'  Emrand Henry, with his 'hotta redda fyah pon di heathen dem is just that with his delivery and bunning out the badness in some people. The other track is Antigua's talented Kenne Blessin with 'No Force." This song has a great melody and focuses on the power within. 'No force against me shall stand in my way.' Not sure if both voices are Kenne's, if so jut shows his talent & if not it adds variety. The whole riddim is nice or at least decent esp. if you love the gospel.
