SHOK WAVE: NEW MUSIC RELEASES 1/17/2023

SHOK WAVE is your weekly new REGGAE music blog. SHOK WAVE finds music that is out there in the form of Reggae, Dancehall, Soca, Ska, Dub, Reggae Rock & anything else musical with a Caribbean origin and in any language.

Here is what we found this week.......Enjoy!

Instead of not doing a blog this week we decided to list a bunch of good songs that released. I did not find anything great just good. Maybe this should be the start of an additional playlist? What do you think?

REGGAE

Tarrus Riley 'Desperate Lover'
Originally written by the great Bob Andy, 'Desperate Lover' is a classic. Here Tarrus Riley covers the song and says 'Bob Andy was, without question, one our greatest songwriters.' Riley's work on this track is with Dean Fraser and states 'His songs will last forever. It’s always a joy to work with Dean Fraser in the studio, and the history stands for itself. You can hear what went into this version.' You definitely can and we fell in love with this song when Barrington Levy covered it. We originally thought it was an American song because it was so well written and good. Tarrus does the song more than justice. The keyboard melody & phrase hits home while the vocals will melt any girl's heart. Releasing on the album "We Remember Bob Andy" Feb 10, 2023.

Jah Thomas ''Clarks A Clarks"
It's an 80's legend doing a full album that sounds straight out of the 80's. The first single & song off the album 'Drunk & Stagga' we reviewed already. The title track 'Clarks A Clarks' are still popular today. Then the outlaw, Josie Wales, joins Jah Thomas on 'Di Devil Control Dem' on the 'Yah We Deh riddim.' Another 80's veteran, Peter Metro joins on 'Get Inna Mi Car.' Jah Thomas is joined by his son, the great singer Daville on the girls party tune 'Party Time' and one of the albums best. 'Ban Pon Di Gun' is joined by Junior Moore, an infatuation that still exists today with the gun. This combo does the albums last tune as well in 'Buy Mi Roses.' 'Big Dance A Keep' is still big business in Jamaica. 'Send the money come' are the lyrics when somebody 'walks' to 'Western Union' knowing they got money. Enjoy in your marina & clarks booty.

Junior Campbell 'Gyal You Look Good'
The son of legend Cornell Campbell is named no other Junior Campbell. With a similar sound and singing a few of his father's biggest songs, Jr debuts with his album "Look To The East." A solid album yet the only song that jumps out at us is 'Gyal You Look Good.' Not the cleanest of songs by Jamaican 'terms.' The sound is better than any others strictly in our opinion. Lyrics could be great if the changing of one word.

REGGAE ROCK

The Holdup 'Still Looking For Love'
We all have dreams and if you are not in love or have a person in your life, then The HoldUp's 'Still Looking For Love' is a song that you can relate to. It might be unfortunate, we all want love. Here, it is done in a nice musical way.

SOCA

Skinny Fabulous "B.A.D. (Beyond A Doubt)
This is a bad child, beyond a doubt....his name is Skinny Fabulous and this is his debut album "B.A.D. (Beyond A Doubt)." It's a solid album and sets the pace with the title track. It is one of the best, if not the best. It has a real nice groovy soca vibe with a slight zouk feel too. This combination is dangerous. This album has an all star cast of guests starting with Nessa Preppy. Get ready to 'Sauce' with Skinny Fabulous because it is a part of soca culture, so either get use to it or get over it. Those other star studded guests include Charly Black, Bounty Killer, Mr Killa, Nailah Blackman, Problem Child, Viking Ding Dong & Oswaldo. It's Fabulous's music that stands out. The guests are definitely nice. His best songs are solo, which is a good move because the stars can help the lesser ones get more play time. The one that does stand out from the pack is the queen of soca, in our book, Nailah Blackman.' This is a love song for the road, literally. Imagine that, it's a plea to Carnival to 'Come Home.' Ingenius. So you know this year Carnival is going to be a BIG release for everyone. It's going to be HOT and Skinny Fabulous wants to 'take off something and wine 'Naked' on something.' This might get him a 'New Gyal.' It's that .....aaaaaahhhhhhwooooo 'good 'Behavior Nothin' and mash up the people's fete. So it's 'Beyond A Doubt' that this is going to be one of THE Best Carnivals.....EVER!!!! So prepare because the muzik has gone to another level.
