SHOK WAVE: Jan 20, 2016

Shok Wave a weekly new music blog from Lance-O of Kulcha Shok hosted at Kulchashok.com/news/

Greetings Muzik Massive

Reggae

Our first album release this week comes out of the Iberian Peninsula of SW Europe so it contains Portugal, Spain & Gibralta. It's a collective that call themselves the Bass Culture Players and they just released 'Foundation Showcase.' Heavy original live roots reggae with dubs to every vocal track and then one. Nice solid album of roots with a touch of Spanish lyrics, mostly in English. The standout cut is PAYOH SOULREBEL with 'FORGIVENESS.'

TJaxx, a new artist to me, states he's been performing for over 10 years and his label is based out of Jacksonville Florida and it appears he resides in Chicago. He reminds me of a few soca artists doing reggae more island style reggae as if it has that soca influence. Do you remember Militant? Well that was one of the names that comes to mind. He sang 'Hot & Groovy.' Anyway TJaxx has a new album out called 'New World Order' and I got 5 tracks off of it. I liked "Run Come" and "Woman So You Sweet.' Both are nice and have a different groove. It's being marketed as reggae, I'd like to call it Island Music.

Double X Promo pic

TOK has had their ups for sure. Lately its been downs for the dancehall quartet. It looks like the group has broken up for good this time. Double X aka Flexx T.O.K. has made his statement since hes been the most active musically. His latest single is one of his better "Get Di Money." I love the lyrics and melody just not a fan of the title.

Pressure Busspipe has really been pushing his recording level of releases out on to the market and in good quality. His newest release is for the 420 crew that believe that is the way of in 'Live Life.'

Salento Guys vs Alborosie & Junior Reid - Respect is a new reggae anthem

So there's a new riddim called Strength Up and a Youth named Marga has the tune on the riddim thats a boom and it's called 'Reggae Music.' I honestly thought it was Protoje so much so that even when I found out it wasn't Protoje, I'm like Protoje sang that song. It turns out its none of the above.

Soca/Calypso

griotism

Last week we spoke of his latest single 'Pot Of Gold' and this week it's lead us to his new album 'Griotism.' Kurt Allen aka The Last Bardjohn of Calypso continues his calypso mission of Griot and has dedicated this album to the Spirit of Calypso music. "Honestly Do" is a great soca of Love and probably my favorite track on the album. It has a hint of rapso in 'Jamin' and hip hop with 'Dreams' & with a name I know just never listened in DJ Theory. I do have to say that at the end of the song Theory delivers one of the most talented raps I've ever heard that is worth listening just for the raw talent.

Here's a new single from a new artist, Imran Nerdy - Friends Of My Life. I can't figure out why I like this song. I like alot of what he says. Musically it sounds more like pop than soca so somebody please tell me why I like this song please.
