SHOK WAVE: Feb 22, 2016

Shok Wave is a weekly summary of new music that Lance-O feels is at least good. Reggae, dancehall, soca, calypso, ska and any genres or forms that may incorporate them or any other form of Caribbean music

Reggae

roots n chalice

Chronixx is working on a new album called 'Roots & Chalice' with Federation, who toured together this past fall. The track is the title track from the album.

Christos DC

Christos Dc & The Skanking Monks, who I've only heard in recent times, come with a nice roots reggae track called 'Human Dignity.' I assume the DC in his name comes from where he's based. He's played with many of the greats so it translates well into his own music.

break-away-riddim-artwork

Old meets new when Tenor Saw ft. Agent Sasco meet on 'Who Shall I Fear.' This is an older song that has added Agent Sasco. I see it being released on a new compilation called 'Epic & Ting.' I could only find the original version.

RASTA NO DEAL WID DAT (FRONT COVER)

'Rasta No Deal Wid Dat' is a nice roots riddim with great players on it. It has all veterans on the tracks. Top cuts come from Vernon Maytone & Johnny Clarke with the top track called 'Have Faith.' Others include Carlton Livingston, Prince Jazzbo, Triston Palma & Anthony John.

Dancehall

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Konshens is one of my favorite dancehall artists. He has melody and his latest single, 'Bruk Off Yuh Back,' is not short of that by any means. The riddim sounds similar to the 'Hold Yuh' riddim.

GTA Affect Riddim - Front Cover - Final

GTA Affect Riddim has a middle of the road dancehall feel. It features the previously released 'Lonely' by Busy Signal now as a remix. Other top cuts include Exco Levi 'Da Ras Yah' and J Logix & Wayne Wonder are decent too.
