SHOK WAVE: Nov. 5, 2014

Kulcha Shok kicks off a new blog this week. It's all about the Muzik!
So each week I listen to lots of music and the more time I have, the more music I listen. We're going to pick up where I left off last week with the music I listened and liked most. You're mostly going to get reggae. You will also get dancehall, soca, ska, reggae rock, and a whole lot more. Here's what I liked this week.

This band popped up on my radar about a year or so ago. I had heard of them just never really took notice. They just signed with Easy Star Records (funny enough a name I considered before Kulcha Shok). What I've heard so far I really like. The better things I've heard so far are 'See Them' & 'One Night Only' feat Natty.

naaman

A relatively new artist to me out of France is Naaman. Hes just released a new album 'Rays of Resistance'  which is solid. He has an album cut called 'Hold On Steady,' that I absolutely love. He also released a single earlier off the album that is a fun track called 'Out A Road.' Other notables are 'Karma,' 'International Love,' 'Live Up,' ' & 'Big & Bad,' the others are good, just not all reggae like the hip hoppish 'Turn Me Loose.' Ultimately this is a really good album.

kranium rumors
Major label signee, Kranium, out of Brooklyn NY by way of Jamaica, has released his debut 'Rumors.' If you liked 'Nobody Has To Know,' I think you'll like the album at least topic wise. There's no denying his style and talent and there are bright spots of that singjay flow on the album. My personal standout is 'Draw Mi Out.'

the reggae power sly robbie spicy chocolate
'Reggae Power 2' is releasing and the album has a great line up, solid production from Sly & Robbie and the album presents a surprise to me. There are two reasons for this surprise: the artist is DeMarco who has talent and is known for his dancehall tunes......not Lover's Rock. Well he sings a BAD lovers rock tune called 'Beautiful Feeling.'

Album Cover cian finn this applies
Cian Finn - This Applies is someone new to me . I love the production...a real reggae feel. Here's bio info since he's new to me.
Hailing from the west of Ireland, Cian Finn is a vocalist and MC, inspired by the sounds of soul, blues and reggae. He was the lead vocalist and a founding member of Irish reggae group Intinn. They were a mainstay of the Irish festival circuit and over the last 7 years playing across the UK, France, Spain and Italy. In 2010 Intinn were declared “Best Upcoming Reggae Act in UK and Ireland” at the One Love Festival in London.. He's worked on a new album with the great Prince Fatty called 'This Applies,' which is out now and features Max Romeo & Horseman. Top track is 'So Nice.' The album is solid.

In the pop side of reggae comes Mystikal Revolutionary Band with 'Little of your Time'

Other notables in the reggae department are the following singles;
The Ultimate Challenge -  Sydney Salmon
Luciano - If God Was Like Man
KNOW THY SELF - ROB SYMEONN
Tonight. Sadekie Lennox
Nuh Fear  -Gisto  feat. Lutan Fyah (old)

This artist is new to me not necessarily new as in just on the scene. A youth in the struggle in Jamaica
ISLAND IN THE SUN - Bono G
BONO G - PRETTY EYES

In the dancehall department comes from out of Norway Matoma with a remix of Popcaan's 'Everything Nice' called 'Feeling Right.' Wales on the track too

In the soca department, here's a tune that released a few months ago. What happened was I lost my harddrive and a lot of my new music from this year and this is one of them I got it again. Out of the land of Banks Beer & Flying Fish Sandwiches (can't forget the great waves too), Barbados comes Mikey with 'Spotlight.' Love the ragga style soca and the video is a lot of fun even though I'm not a fan of Selfies.
